Assam’s Authorities Deploy Extra Forces to Ensure Peaceful Independence Day

Security agencies in Assam have mobilised extra troops and surveillance units ahead of the nation’s Independence Day, following calls from ULFA‑I and NSCN/GRPN to boycott the event. The state’s police department reported that special task forces have been positioned at major public squares, transportation terminals, and government complexes to guard against any potential disruption.

The deployment includes rapid‑reaction teams, aerial drones for live monitoring, and intensified checks on inter‑state routes to curb the flow of weapons or explosives. Senior police officials assured the public that any attempt to interfere with the flag‑hoisting ceremony will be dealt with harshly.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will preside over the ceremony at Khanapara Maidan, while other ministers supervise regional programs. A high‑level security review chaired by the Chief Secretary and the DGP discussed measures such as route sanitisation, crowd‑control barriers, and 24‑hour CCTV coverage of all venues.

ULFA‑I’s demand for a sovereign Assam has repeatedly targeted national holidays, but the administration noted that the massive public participation in recent years has already countered separatist narratives. The reinforced security posture is expected to guarantee a tranquil and dignified celebration across the state.
