In a major boost to India’s media education landscape, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will preside over the foundation stone laying of new academic and hostel blocks at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) during its 57th convocation on Friday. As IIMC’s Chancellor, Vaishnaw’s involvement highlights the pivotal role of governmental support in elevating mass communication training.
The event gains further prominence with Vice President CP Radhakrishnan set to distribute awards to the batch of 2024-25’s outstanding students. Joining them will be Ministry Secretary Sanjay Jaju, faculty, and staff, all gathered to commend the graduating cohort’s hard-earned successes.
Graduates from IIMC’s diverse programs—including journalism in multiple languages like English, Hindi, Odia, Urdu, Marathi, Malayalam, alongside Radio & TV, Digital Media, Advertising, and Public Relations—will receive their diplomas. The ceremony will feature the presentation of 35 medals to course toppers from six campuses, 23 with monetary rewards, celebrating peak performance across the board.
Beyond diplomas and awards, the day includes the inauguration of the state-of-the-art Creators Lounge in the Incubation Center, spearheaded by Minister Vaishnaw. This facility promises to nurture creative talents in the evolving media ecosystem.
Tracing its roots to 1965, IIMC has strategically expanded with regional hubs: Dhenkanal in 1993 for the east, Amravati and Aizawl in 2011-12 for west and northeast, and Jammu and Kottayam from 2012-13 for north and south. These centers ensure localized, language-specific training in journalism and beyond.
As IIMC steps into this phase of modernization, the convocation stands as a testament to institutional growth, equipping India’s media workforce with cutting-edge skills for the digital age.
