Ashish Sood pledges legal protection for non‑violent demonstrators in Delhi

New Delhi, July 30 – Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood publicly pledged that students who demonstrated peacefully at the capital’s Jantar Mantar will receive full legal protection. He stated that no action will be taken against demonstrators who adhered to peaceful methods.

The minister pointed out that the central government has already clarified its stance: simply taking part in a peaceful protest does not warrant any criminal case. This reaffirmation supports the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech.

Sood warned that anyone who resorted to aggression, looting, or other illegal activities during the protest would be held accountable under the law. Individuals with prior offences or those who used the protest as a pretext for violence will face appropriate legal action.

The Home Department’s press release echoed Sood’s remarks, assuring citizens that peaceful protestors need not fear retribution. The administration’s approach aims to balance the protection of democratic expression with strict enforcement against disorderly conduct.
