Arup Chaturjee Asked to Retract Statements Within Seven Days
A formal defamation notice sent by Lok Sabha MP Dhruv Mahto on July 12 demands that MLA Arup Chaturjee retract his earlier allegations within a strict seven‑day period. The notice, prepared by Mahto’s attorney, labels the MLA’s claims as unverified and harmful to the MP’s image.
The document requires Chaturjee to publish an unconditional apology across the same platforms where the alleged falsehoods appeared, and to erase all related videos, posts and articles from digital media. It also stipulates a compensation claim of two crore rupees for the perceived damage to reputation.
Mahto asserted that while democratic discourse is welcome, spreading unsubstantiated accusations crosses the line into defamation. He warned that failure to meet the deadline will trigger judicial action.
