Army’s Victor Force Secures Chana Pora and Seizes Arms Cache in Baramulla
The Victor Force, an elite counter‑insurgency unit of the Indian Army, has played a pivotal role in stabilising Shopyan’s Chana Pora sector. After a violent encounter on Saturday that left several militants dead, the force established a robust cordon and launched a series of sweeps that culminated in the discovery of a dead Lashkar‑e‑Taiba commander, identified as Jakir Ganai. The operation, now in its fifth day, has seen army units 44 RR, 20 RR, 55 RR and 34 RR working closely with the 14th and 178th battalions of the CRPF and local police. In parallel, a joint search in Baramulla’s Htalanga area produced a significant seizure: two AK‑56 rifles with two magazines each, 256 rounds of ammunition, a pistol with two magazines, five hand grenades, three packs of cigarettes and a black bag. The weapon haul was recovered during a Tuesday morning raid by a combined police‑army team. The Victor Force’s presence has ensured that escape routes through dense bushes are sealed, while continuous surveillance via night‑vision devices prevents any resurgence of insurgent movement. The security apparatus remains on high alert as it completes the CAOS sweep across Shopyan.
