Armed Chase Near Nithora Underpass Leads to Arrest of Chain Thief

In the Loni sector of Ghaziabad, a high‑speed chase unfolded on August 30 after police received a report of two criminals approaching the Nithora underpass on a motorcycle. The suspects were suspected of planning another chain‑snatching operation. Officers from the local police and the SWAT unit set up a checkpoint and ordered the riders to stop.

Defying the command, the motorcyclists turned sharply and attempted to flee. Their bike slid on the road, and one of the men brandished a tamacha, an improvised firearm, firing at the police. The officers returned fire, striking the shooter in the leg.

The injured suspect, Mohammad Asif, a 35‑year‑old resident of Sultan Nagar, Mustafabad Loni, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for medical care. His accomplice, identified only as Danish, used the ensuing darkness to escape.

ACP Ramkishan Rana noted that the same criminals had broken into a shop on August 23, stealing a woman's chain. In a subsequent interrogation, Asif admitted that he and Danish had snatched a chain from a woman near Parachun shop on Sitara Masjid Road, earning roughly Rs 40,000, of which he kept Rs 16,000 after expenses. Police recovered an illegal tamacha, a live cartridge, a blank cartridge, a stolen motorcycle, Rs 16,000 in cash, and a Muthoot Finance receipt from Asif's possession.
