Anti-corruption probe reveals massive grain shortage and financial loss in Jammu & Kashmir

A recent anti‑corruption probe in Jammu and Kashmir has highlighted a severe shortage of grain in the state's public distribution system. The ACB’s FIR, filed against fourteen people, points to the deliberate diversion of 4,175.89 quintals of wheat and rice from Karnah, Kupwara. The missing stock, valued at Rs 5,57,18,657.25, involved five senior officers of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department and nine licensed Fair Price Shop traders. The investigation, based on a tip from the department director, was pursued under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and the Indian Penal Code, 2023, after physical verification confirmed the discrepancy.
