Andhra Pradesh local body polls: TDP alliance dominates, YSRCP second

Amaravati — The Andhra Pradesh local‑body elections concluded with the TDP‑fronted NDA coalition overwhelmingly outperforming its rivals. Out of a total of 582 ZPTC seats, the alliance secured 499, representing 85 percent, while in the 7,768 MPTC contests it won 5,861 seats, roughly 75 percent.

The YSR Congress Party emerged as the principal opposition, winning 76 ZPTC seats and 1,711 MPTC seats. The State Election Commission released the final tallies on Sunday night after polling on 5 November across 28 districts.

Within the coalition, the Telugu Desam Party emerged as the largest single party with 406 ZPTC and 4,806 MPTC victories. Its junior allies, Jana Sena Party and Bharatiya Janata Party, added 73 ZPTC and 938 MPTC seats, and 20 ZPTC and 117 MPTC seats respectively. The Congress party failed to capture any seat, CPI‑M managed one ZPTC and 15 MPTC seats, and independent candidates won six ZPTC and 162 MPTC seats.

In district‑level breakdowns, TDP led in Satya Sai (21 of 32 ZPTC seats) and Tirupati (21 of 31 ZPTC seats). In Kadapa, the home district of YSRCP chief Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the party managed only two ZPTC seats out of 16, while TDP secured 12 and JSP took the remaining two.

Reddy accused the incumbent government of undue interference during vote counting, alleging that officials were pressured to alter results, thereby undermining democratic norms even as Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s alliance celebrates its victory.
