Andhra Pradesh Chief Orders Intensified Rescue for Missing Anglers

Visakhapatnam – Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed an accelerated search for six fishermen who disappeared after a sudden storm struck the Bay of Bengal on July 1. The fishermen, hailing from the districts of Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram, left the local fishing harbour for a day’s catch and never returned.

The leader spoke with senior officials over the phone from Kuppam in Chittoor district, receiving a briefing on the ongoing joint operation involving the Andhra Pradesh Coast Guard, Indian Navy and Marine Police. He emphasized the need for real‑time communication and instructed the Marine IG and the Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner to keep him informed of every development.

According to the authorities, a low‑pressure system created hazardous sea conditions that forced one of the boats to halt near the Ganga Varma coast. The Coast Guard vessel currently circles the area, while Navy helicopters conduct aerial sweeps.

The chief also ordered state ministers and local representatives to provide financial and logistical support to the families of the missing fishermen, ensuring they receive necessary aid while the rescue continues.

The coordinated effort reflects a multi‑agency response designed to maximize the chances of locating the missing anglers, with hopes that the challenging weather will improve in the coming hours.
