Andhra Families Await Return of Loved Ones as Corpses Land in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, 14 July – The heartbreaking news of three Andhra Pradesh citizens dying in a Vietnamese boat disaster reached home towns after their bodies arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday. The deceased, Sridhar Mudiyam, Jaya Lakshmi Gelli and Nallapeta Adisheshaiah Raviteja, were on a vacation when the tragedy struck.

Minister Kondapalli Srinivas, speaking at the airport, said the incident had left a “deep wound” for the state. He assured that the government is standing shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the bereaved families, offering counseling, financial aid and logistical support to bring the remains to their respective districts.

The bodies were first transported to Mumbai for mandatory documentation before being flown to Hyderabad. Officials have already begun coordinating with local authorities in each district to ensure a dignified hand‑over.

The Andhra Pradesh Non‑Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) played a pivotal role, coordinating with the Vietnamese authorities, the Indian embassy and local Telugu groups to streamline the repatriation.

Deputy Tahsildar Janardhanam confirmed that protocol officials are overseeing the entire procedure, while Minister Kondapalli remained at the airport to personally supervise the final transfer.

Relatives of the victims thanked both state and central governments, emphasizing that the prompt assistance helped them navigate a painful process with greater ease.
