Andhra Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Inspects Godavari, Demands Pollution Audit

In a decisive move to protect the Godavari River, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has ordered a full-scale audit of industrial and domestic waste entering the waterway. The announcement followed his early-morning boat inspection across polluted stretches in Rajahmundry. Kalyan personally checked sewage discharge locations and ongoing riverfront development projects. He highlighted that the state aims to host a completely pollution-free Godavari Pushkaram next year and called for immediate scientific upgrades to sewage treatment facilities. Officials were told to prepare a clear action plan that includes both completed tasks and pending work. The Deputy CM pointed out that 55 million liters of sewage reach the river every day and stressed that untreated water must not be released. The government has secured administrative sanction for Rs 95 crore under the National River Conservation Plan. This funding will be used to build modern treatment plants capable of handling the current pollution load. Kalyan urged strict monitoring of all pollution sources and asked district authorities to submit a comprehensive report within a short deadline so that corrective measures can be implemented before the Pushkaram festival.
