Anantnag Law Enforcement Dismantles Drug Network, Recovers Nearly 6 Kg of Charas
In a concerted effort to eradicate drug trafficking at its roots, Anantnag police carried out multiple operations across the district in early October. The raids resulted in the arrest of five suspected traffickers and the seizure of more than 5.9 kg of illegal narcotics. At Hati Gum crossing, Shrigufwara officers detained Shah Nawaz Ahmed Gani, uncovering 5 kg 780 g of charas powder. Kokernag’s patrol in the Kokernag‑Bidar zone captured Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, who possessed about 18 g of a charas‑like drug. A further sweep in Hillar Arhama, Kokernag, led to the capture of Rais Ahmed Gani with roughly 40 g of the same substance. Duru police, during routine checks in Poli, seized 90 g of charas from Amir Ahmed Nazar. The largest seizure came from a Sangam post operation, where a bag containing 1.78 kg of cannabis‑type material was recovered from Sahil Rashid Sheikh of Avanti Pora. All arrests have been filed under the NDPS Act, and authorities have vowed to maintain strict legal action against anyone involved in the drug trade.
