Kolkata witnessed a political earthquake on Friday as West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose tendered his resignation, paving the way for a new chapter in his career back in Kerala. The announcement, posted on Raj Bhavan’s social media, comes at a sensitive time, merely months before the 2026 state elections.
In his heartfelt letter, Bose reflected on his journey: ‘My time in West Bengal ends here. The warmth and honor from Bengal’s people will always stay with me.’ He revealed plans to work towards ‘Viksit Bharat’ in Kerala, his native state, aligning with national leadership’s vision.
A 1977-batch IAS officer, Bose assumed the governor’s role in late 2022 amid high expectations. His stint saw frequent friction with Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee’s administration over governance issues. Now, with the resignation accepted by the President, Tamil Nadu’s RN Ravi is set to take over.
Bose profusely thanked the President, PM, and Home Minister for their support. He wished Ravi well, hailing him as a ‘shining successor’ and a close friend. The move raises eyebrows, especially as Banerjee questioned the timing, suggesting undue influence from Delhi and lack of state input on the replacement.
This development could reshape alliances and strategies as parties gear up for the polls. Bose’s shift highlights his dedication to broader national development, leaving a legacy of principled administration in Bengal despite challenges.
