Amravati Child Hospitalised After Untreated Stray Dog Attack Leaves Facial Damage
A nine‑year‑old girl from the Rukmini Nagar sector of Amravati was hospitalised following a violent bite from an uncontrolled stray dog on July 17. The attack occurred at the Siddheshwari Apartments, leaving the child with extensive injuries to her face.
The attending physician, Dr. Anand Kakani, explained that the bite inflicted deep wounds and destroyed a large area of the facial tissue. He warned that full recovery may require a future plastic surgery operation to rebuild the damaged area.
Currently, the child's vital signs are stable, though she has lost a measurable amount of blood. Doctors are keeping a close watch on her condition and have outlined a treatment plan that includes wound care, blood transfusion if needed, and monitoring for infection.
A critical part of the assessment involves testing the animal for rabies. Since the circumstances of the attack suggest no provocation, the probability of rabies cannot be dismissed. Laboratory analysis will determine whether anti‑rabies medication must be administered.
Local authorities are being urged to strengthen stray‑dog control measures to prevent further incidents of this nature.
