Mysterious Escape Ends: Amit Yadav Finally Apprehended by Crime Branch

After a flight spanning more than 26 years, the Crime Branch’s SARSC team in Delhi succeeded in arresting Amit Yadav, the man convicted for the high‑profile 1995 kidnapping of EMS director Rishi Sethi. Yadav, aged 57, had been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2.5 lakh but escaped after obtaining a short interim bail from the Delhi High Court in January 2000.

Following his disappearance, Yadav systematically erased his trail. He left his rented dwelling in Ghaziabad, cut all telephone and postal links, and disposed of his family connections. He sold his inherited land in Saidpur, Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh) and moved to Uttarakhand, first to Rishikesh where he frequently changed lodging, and later to Dehradun in 2001. In Dehradun he altered his identity, entered the building trade, and operated as a local contractor.

The renewed investigation traced financial and property cues that led officers to Dehradun, where a coordinated raid on Yadav’s residence resulted in his detention without incident. The capture brings an end to the longest manhunt related to a ransom‑driven kidnapping in the region, and Yadav will now be returned to prison to serve his original life term.

Police officials emphasized that the successful operation reflects persistent inter‑state coordination and the effectiveness of the SARSC team’s intelligence network. The victim’s family, who endured years of uncertainty, expressed relief and gratitude for the closure provided by the recent arrest.
