Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Agartala on Friday promises to spotlight the promotion of Hindi across key Indian regions. He will inaugurate the Joint Regional Official Language Conference, a collaborative platform for eastern, northeastern, and northern zones – a debut for Tripura.
Anshuli Arya, Secretary at the MHA’s Official Language Wing, revealed that more than 3,000 delegates from government bodies, PSUs, and banks in about 20 states are attending. This assembly underscores the government’s push for effective official language implementation nationwide.
The event will honor top performers with 80 Regional Official Language Awards for the 2024-25 fiscal year, recognizing excellence in policy adherence by offices, banks, and firms. ‘NRAKAS Encouragement Awards’ will also go to municipal language committees driving local initiatives.
Winners are determined via rigorous evaluation of quarterly reports on the Official Information Management System, promoting accountability. Friday’s opening will launch the Northeast special issue of ‘Rajbhasha Bharati’ and release select books, enriching the linguistic discourse.
Wellness takes center stage too, with expert-led yoga, breathing exercises, and stress-relief sessions. Attendees hail from eastern states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal; northeastern ones including all eight – Assam to Sikkim; and northern powerhouses from UP to Ladakh.
In her remarks, Arya highlighted AI’s role in overcoming language barriers in the digital age. She lauded PM Modi’s and Amit Shah’s advocacy for straightforward Hindi, even in letters where Shah adopts state languages. The government’s ethos embraces Hindi and 22 Indian languages equally, fostering unity in diversity without dominance.
