Allegations of Corruption in Bicycle Procurement Under Lakshmi Scheme

Jarnail Singh accused the Delhi government of corrupt practices in the procurement of bicycles under the Lakshmi Scheme. He noted that bicycles readily available in the market for ₹4,000 are being purchased by the government at a price of ₹7,000 each. Singh argued that when the government orders large volumes—between 130,000 and 140,000 units—the cost per unit should drop, not rise.

The MLA described the situation as a direct case of corruption, questioning why the speaker defended the administration’s actions. When Singh pressed for a debate on the issue, he was denied time and instructed to leave the assembly floor. He warned that the current level of greed threatens even basic provisions such as children’s bicycles.
