All parties rally to protect 3.28 lakh teachers from new TET rule

Tamil Nadu’s Legislative Assembly, spanning the political spectrum, backed a resolution demanding that the Union government exempt teachers appointed before 23 August 2010 from the compulsory Teacher Eligibility Test. The document, presented by Minister A. Raj Mohan, cites the risk to job security, promotions and pension benefits for about 3.28 lakh educators. It calls for an amendment to the Right to Education Act to grant legal protection. After a voice vote, the resolution was passed unanimously and forwarded to the centre.
