AK-56 Rifle Recovered as Gumla Police Bust Armed Crime Plan
A conspiracy to carry out a violent crime with deadly firearms has been stopped by police in Gumla district of Jharkhand. Acting on a raid in the Sisai police station area, officers seized an AK-56 rifle, three magazines, a desi carbine and several rounds of ammunition connected to a red car.
One suspect was taken into custody on the spot. Other people who were in the car escaped in the darkness and by using the nearby thick forest.
Gumla Superintendent of Police Harish Bin Jama briefed the media at a press conference on Thursday. He said police had received a confidential input that Rohit Sharma, a resident of the Sisai police station limits, had arrived at the house of Rajendra Yadav in Tooli village with four or five associates. The information indicated that the group possessed illegal and dangerous weapons and was preparing to commit a major criminal offence.
Because of the seriousness of the information, the SP ordered the constitution of a special raid team headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Suresh Prasad Yadav. The team comprised Sisai Circle Inspector Vinay Kumar and police personnel from the Sisai and Bharno police stations. While moving quickly toward Tooli village, the team came across a suspicious red car.
Police stated that four or five persons were traveling in the vehicle. When they saw the police, the occupants panicked, stepped out of the car and ran. The police pursued them, but most of the accused succeeded in fleeing the spot by exploiting the dark night and the surrounding dense forest.
Afterward, police conducted an intensive search of the abandoned car. A desi carbine, magazines, bullets and other suspicious articles were found inside. Rajendra Yadav was arrested from the scene, and during interrogation he pointed police to another site, where an AK-56 rifle and a large quantity of bullets were recovered.
Police are now probing where the modern weapons were procured from and which individuals are linked to this criminal network. Continuous raids are being carried out at possible hiding places to nab the main absconding accused.
The SP lauded all officers and personnel who took part in the raid. He said the prompt and watchful action by police had prevented a major criminal incident.
