Ajola Production Generates Livelihoods, Thanks PM Modi

Women of the Amali self‑help group in Dharmtari have created a new source of livelihood by converting ajola, a water‑borne weed, into marketable products. After completing a training course, they set up small tanks at home and have already harvested 25 kg of dried ajola.

The dried plant is sold as an organic supplement for paddy fields, enhancing soil fertility and reducing the need for synthetic chemicals. It also serves as a nutritious feed for dairy animals, goats and chickens, leading to higher milk production.

Group member Anita Bairi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the government schemes that made this possible, noting that the earnings have turned many members into “lakh‑pati” earners.

Future plans include scaling up to produce organic compost and vermicompost, further diversifying income streams for the women.
