Technical Glitch and Pilot Death Highlight Safety Concerns for Air India

New Delhi, September 13 – On the same day that an Air India flight to Dehradun was diverted to Lucknow, the carrier faced two additional incidents that have raised safety questions.

First, a Bhopal‑Delhi service (AI1886) was forced to land in Jaipur after a technical fault was detected during the flight. The airline’s maintenance team performed an immediate inspection, and the aircraft was taken out of service for further checks. Air India confirmed that the decision complied with its standard safety procedures.

Second, the airline announced the death of a pilot who suffered a cardiac arrest while staying at a hotel in Delhi during a layover. The 38‑year‑old aviator, originally from Mumbai, had previously worked with Air India Express before joining the mainline carrier a few months earlier. He was found unconscious on Friday evening, rushed to a nearby hospital, and was later declared dead.

These events come at a time when Air India is under scrutiny for operational disruptions. The airline reiterated its dedication to rigorous safety standards and promised a comprehensive review of both the technical issue and health monitoring protocols for crew members.

Industry analysts note that while diversions due to weather are common, the combination of technical failures and crew health emergencies in a single day is unusual and may prompt regulatory bodies to examine the airline’s internal safeguards.
