Ahmedabad Deploys 92 Pumps and Massive De‑Silt Team to Combat Flooding

To tackle persistent water‑logging, AMC has positioned 92 pumps throughout Ahmedabad, including 34 Varun pumps and 58 fire‑fighter pumps, allocated based on local demand. In addition, a de‑silt crew of 203 staff members, assisted by 426 labourers, 49 tractors and other machinery, works around the clock on drainage cleaning.

The city operates 43 storm‑water pumping stations, 79 drainage pumping stations and 90 sewage pumps, all actively extracting floodwater. Between 13 and 14 September, the storm‑pump network dispatched 386.70 MLD of rainwater, while sewage stations removed an extra 725.56 MLD. All but one underpass remain open, equipped with high‑capacity pumps to maintain traffic flow.

AMC's SCADA‑linked system monitors 42 storm‑pumping stations continuously, ensuring optimal performance during the monsoon peak. These coordinated efforts have significantly reduced standing water in low‑lying neighborhoods, safeguarding both residential and commercial zones.
