Ahmedabad Blast Highlights Illegal Firecracker Manufacturing

A catastrophic blast at an unlicensed firecracker manufacturing site in Ahmedabad’s Ramol neighbourhood has intensified concerns over illegal explosives production. The blast caused a ferocious fire that destroyed the premises and trapped several laborers. Medical reports from Ahmedabad Civil Hospital confirm the death count has risen to ten, with the latest victim identified as Govind Dhamor, who suffered burns over more than 95% of his body. Five victims remain hospitalized: a woman and four men, two of whom are in critical condition after sustaining burns covering 75% and 95% of their bodies. Three other patients with 40% and 20% burns have been treated with skin grafts from the hospital’s skin‑bank. Authorities have taken the alleged proprietors – Ramila Dodia, her son Mehul Dodia, and partner Sadik Syed – into custody under the Indian Penal Code and explosive legislation. A dedicated investigation team is reviewing the incident and searching for other unlawful firecracker workshops in the city and surrounding districts.
