Adilabad cement plant remains idle as state delays joint venture with centre

The Adilabad unit of the Cement Corporation of India continues to sit dormant, a situation that BRS executive president K.T. Ramarao says is the direct result of the Telangana government’s hesitation to formalise a joint venture with the Union government. The plant, once a major employer in the region, has been out of operation for over two years, affecting thousands of families dependent on its output.

According to Ramarao, a delegation from his party met heavy‑industry minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on July 15 and submitted a memorandum demanding the plant’s re‑commissioning. The minister reportedly indicated that the central government would allocate funds provided the state contributed ₹250 crore as its share.

However, the centre has yet to receive any official proposal from the state, and no incentives under the TS‑IPAS framework have been offered. Ramarao accuses the current administration of neglecting the promises made by the chief minister during the last election campaign, where reviving the plant was a key pledge.

The letter lists six critical questions for Chief Minister Revant Reddy, ranging from the readiness to fund the state share to possible alternatives if the centre refuses further cooperation.
