Adhikari Advises Abhishek Banerjee to Seek Treatment in New York

Kolkata, October 30: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday offered a pointed and sarcastic response to Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, suggesting that he seek medical care in New York for a possible sodium-potassium imbalance. The comment came after Banerjee's strong warning to state law enforcement officers.

The chief minister's remarks came a day after Banerjee publicly threatened police personnel. Banerjee had accused officers of filing false cases against Trinamool workers on the state government's instructions. He warned that no one would save them if the political balance shifted.

At a press interaction near a hotel in Kolkata, Adhikari spoke without naming Banerjee. He underlined that investigators were gathering significant information from Sumit Roy, Banerjee's former personal assistant, who had been questioned by the police in recent days.

Adhikari said the person who collected money for them was effectively their PA and had told investigators everything. He argued that because the party had governed for 15 years, some people might still be communicating with its leaders through FaceTime. Even then, he stated, the government was receiving every piece of information it needed.

He linked Banerjee's agitation to the information shared with law enforcement agencies and said the TMC leader seemed unsettled, with something amiss in his sodium-potassium levels. Adhikari suggested that Banerjee should go to New York for treatment and added that the government would issue him a No Objection Certificate for the trip.

The chief minister's reply came after Banerjee's sharp speech on Thursday evening. In it, the Trinamool leader sharply criticised the BJP-led state government and the functioning of the state police administration.

Banerjee had openly cautioned law enforcement officers against acting under political influence. He said he was warning every officer who believed they would work at Suvendu Adhikari's behest. He insisted no one could protect them after a change of government and that no one was above the law. He said anyone who thought they could fall and escape would not be shielded, took personal responsibility for his words, and said the coming two years would show what happens next.
