Additional ₹217.6 crore allocated for broadened school meal plan

To fund the enlarged breakfast initiative, the Tamil Nadu state cabinet has earmarked an extra 217.63 crore rupees. The additional budget will support the preparation and distribution of meals in the newly included middle‑school classes. The scheme, renamed the Chief Minister Kamaraj Breakfast Scheme after the TVK government took office, was originally limited to primary schools. With the latest enhancement, the programme will operate in all districts except Chengalpattu and Tirupur, where by‑elections are currently being held.
