ABVP Repeats Top Post Triumph in Punjab University Student Council

For the second consecutive term, the All India Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has secured the presidency of the Punjab University Campus Students Council. Ankit Bihan, the ABVP’s candidate, defeated three rivals by a margin exceeding 500 votes, confirming the party’s growing influence on campus.

The election saw support from the Shiromani Akali Dal’s student wing and the Student Organisation of India, both of which publicly backed the ABVP candidate a day before voting began. This dual endorsement helped ABVP achieve a historic back‑to‑back win, a first in the university’s record.

Other key results included Arman Singh Bhander of the PUDf winning the vice‑president slot, while independents Dhyan Singh and Vishal Bamal were elected secretary and joint secretary respectively. Sixteen candidates contested the full slate of positions.

Senior BJP leader B.L. Santosh lauded the victory on X, emphasizing the significance of the win for the party and for the nation’s youth. The outcome also signals the continued popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi among the student body.

Approximately 16,500 students were eligible to cast ballots, with women accounting for 9,000 voters and a single transgender voter participating, reflecting a modest increase of 344 voters compared with the previous year.
