The corridors of Uttar Pradesh politics heated up as Samajwadi Party’s Abbas Haider fired back at CM Yogi Adityanath’s controversial quip dismissing claims to Shankaracharya status. Labeling the demand for validation from these spiritual giants as ‘tragic,’ Haider demanded transparency from the CM.
‘Should the Chief Minister’s office be certifying the legitimacy of our four Shankaracharyas? He needs to come clean on this,’ Haider challenged during an IANS interview. This comes amid accusations that the Yogi administration has systematically demeaned these leaders and handled their followers poorly, refusing to apologize.
The SP leader described the government’s actions as ‘reprehensible,’ urging a reevaluation of such postures. Expanding his critique, Haider weighed in on the Delhi University fiasco involving a woman YouTuber and UGC rules. ‘No one deserves disrespect, but this seems like a deliberate BJP ploy to fracture student unity against the regime, as Akhilesh noted,’ he observed.
Turning to sports, Haider rallied behind India’s cricketers facing Pakistan in the World Cup league stage in Colombo tomorrow. ‘Our team carries the blessings of 140 crore Indians. Expect dominance over Pakistan and every rival en route to World Cup glory,’ he predicted with confidence.
With India already in Colombo, anticipation builds. Haider’s remarks reflect SP’s strategy to intertwine religious sensitivities, campus politics, and patriotic fervor in countering the ruling BJP narrative.
