AAP Government Accused of Suppressing Drug Crisis After Worker’s Death

The death of Dirba labourer Gulzar Singh has become a flashpoint for criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party’s rule in Punjab. Activists claim the government has been downplaying the severity of the drug epidemic that claimed the worker’s life.

Gulzar, who had recorded a video exposing the rampant availability of narcotics in his area and the lack of effective remedial measures, approached Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema for assistance. According to his relatives, the minister failed to intervene and instead sent local goons to pressure the family.

Opposition leaders argue that the administration’s silence on the issue is deliberate, aiming to protect its image ahead of upcoming elections. They demand a full inquiry, the dismissal of the minister, and immediate steps to eradicate the drug menace in Punjab.
