Aadhaar controversy sparks fierce rebuttal from MP Pappu Yadav
Patna, 8 Nov – In a robust defense of citizen rights, independent MP Rajesh Ranjan “Pappu Yadav” confronted Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lallan Singh, over remarks that tied public service benefits to the Aadhaar identification system.
Yadav reminded the house that the Aadhaar card is an essential record for more than 1.4 billion people across India. He warned that any policy that makes life harder for such a massive population undermines democratic foundations. “This administration has turned into a fictitious, anti‑constitutional regime that jeopardises our democracy,” Yadav said, calling for its departure.
He questioned the government's moral stance, asking whether the people are viewed as mere beasts and if the cabinet believes itself to be beyond legal scrutiny. Yadav asserted that Aadhaar is an authentic, singular proof of identity and that the demand for multiple proofs is inherently flawed.
The MP broadened his critique, accusing the state of selective enforcement, citing the role of agencies like the Enforcement Directorate, Intelligence Bureau, and security forces, even alleging the presence of armed units in civilian scenarios. He also pressed the issue of alleged foreign money flowing to the opposition Congress, urging immediate legal action and demanding that any media narrative painting the nation as unstable be examined.
Citing the Prime Minister’s overseas trips to Sri Lanka, Nepal, Israel and the United States, Yadav remarked that now the spotlight is on India’s own governance. He concluded by branding the ruling party and its ideological allies as threats to the Constitution, ordinary citizens and women, insisting that they must be removed from power.
