Delhi’s South East District Police have delivered a textbook example of rapid investigation by solving the shocking double murder of a mother and her teenage son in Govindpuri within 72 hours. The victims were found dead in their residence on the intervening night of 20-21 May. Police identified the woman’s cousin, Saurabh Sahu, as the perpetrator after meticulously examining call records, CCTV footage and local intelligence. Confronted near Tughlakabad Extension, the 28-year-old opened indiscriminate fire. Officers responded with controlled bursts, injuring and detaining him. A desi pistol and ammunition were seized. The encounter left one sub-inspector’s protective jacket grazed but intact. Sahu later revealed deep-seated envy as the motive, claiming the victim had pressured him to abandon his drug habit and criminal lifestyle. He also acknowledged four previous cases involving theft and robbery. The episode underscores Delhi Police’s zero-tolerance approach toward intra-family violence and narcotics-related crime.
