667 Students Receive Degrees at Birsa Munda University’s Inaugural Convocation

Rajpipla witnessed a momentous event on Sunday as Birsa Munda Tribal University held its first convocation. Six hundred sixty‑seven students from diverse streams—arts, commerce, science, postgraduate courses and MSW—were awarded their degrees.

The Governor of Gujarat, Chancellor Acharya Devvrat, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel were present on the dais. In addition, 47 graduates were distinguished with gold and silver medals for their academic achievements.

The ceremony began with Chancellor Devvrat formally opening the proceedings, followed by the administration of the graduation oath. The Governor and other dignitaries then handed out medals and certificates to the selected scholars.

Chief Minister Patel emphasized that this ceremony represents a breakthrough for tribal youth, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering indigenous communities. He recalled that, a quarter of a century ago, the region had only one college offering graduation‑level education, forcing aspirants to travel to Surat or Vadodara.

Since then, the tribal districts have seen a rapid expansion of higher‑education facilities, including five engineering colleges, six polytechnics and eleven medical colleges. Patel credited Birsa Munda Tribal University and Govind Guru University for making higher education more accessible to tribal populations.

He urged the fresh graduates to stay true to their cultural heritage while using their education to foster local development, encouraging them to become proactive contributors to the state’s growth.
