665 Biogas Units Empower Tribal Homes Around Gujarat's Statue of Unity

Gujarat's push towards sustainable rural energy has reached a milestone with 665 biogas plants now functional for tribal families near the Statue of Unity. This government-backed drive targets 1,000 households, slashing reliance on fossil fuels and traditional biomass for cooking. The program was unveiled by PM Narendra Modi at last year's Rashtriya Ekta Diwas event in Ekta Nagar, pledging biogas adoption in surrounding tribal areas. Managed by the DRDA in Narmada's Garudeshwar taluka, it covers 89 villages under 38 panchayats. Fully funded by the state, families provide digging labor, making it a community effort. The plants process kitchen and animal waste into methane for stoves and slurry for fields, cutting costs and pollution. In Vaghpura village, Raveena Tadvi praises the reliability: 'No more LPG hassles or firewood hunts. Daily gas and organic manure have improved our farming.' Chandu Tadvi adds that women save time and escape smoky kitchens that once harmed their health. This shift not only eases daily chores but promotes organic agriculture, reducing chemical inputs. With over two-thirds of units installed, the project exemplifies how targeted interventions can uplift remote communities, blending technology with tradition for a greener future.
