Bhilwara’s underworld of online gambling suffered a severe blow as police uncovered and shuttered a sprawling cricket betting racket. Nestled in Nehru Vihar, Bhimganj area, the den was raided on January 29, leading to the capture of six key operators. The haul was impressive: nearly 50 smartphones, multiple laptops and tablets, plus ledgers documenting millions in illicit wagers.
SP Dharmendra Singh Yadav recounted how the tip-off led to a dramatic raid on a residential property repurposed into a betting command center. Inside, three chambers buzzed with activity—laptops humming, mobiles charging in bulk, and screens flashing live odds for the Australia vs Pakistan ODI. The accused were caught red-handed dictating bets over calls, using borrowed SIMs to evade tracking.
Fleeing suspects were nabbed on the spot thanks to the police’s strategic encirclement. Probe uncovered a web of organized crime, preying on cricket fans through apps and messaging services. Punters faced ruinous losses while the ring leaders raked in fortunes.
Named arrests comprise Govind son of Purushottam Tejwani, Chandan Fatnani, Tarun Karnani, Mulchand, Arif Ansari, and Kamlesh Kalwani. Investigations continue to trace upstream suppliers and money flows.
Meanwhile, in Jhalawar’s Amaliya Kheda, a bulldozer flattened an encroached pasture linked to narcotics kingpins. This came after seizing Rs 5 crore worth of MDMA drugs and precursors from a clandestine lab. Fugitive Gopal Singh and two others with rewards on their heads are top priorities for SP Amit Kumar’s team.
