In a major breakthrough, authorities in Bengaluru filed a detailed charge sheet naming six suspects in the extortion racket targeting Kannada actor Darshan’s spouse. The filing marks the culmination of an intensive investigation that exposed a web of threats designed to squeeze money from the celebrity household.
Yathishree, Darshan’s wife, endured relentless harassment starting late last year. Menacing calls at odd hours, WhatsApp threats laced with personal details, and even veiled references to harm kept the family on edge. Police traced the numbers to a syndicate operating from the outskirts of the city.
The charge sheet, spanning over 1,200 pages, includes forensic analysis of phones, CCTV footage from key locations, and confessions from two of the accused. Charges invoke IPC provisions for criminal intimidation, cheating, and abetment. ‘This was no random act; it was premeditated,’ remarked the investigating officer.
Darshan, celebrated for his action-packed roles and massive fan following, rallied support from fans who flooded social media with solidarity messages. The accused, ranging from small-time crooks to tech-savvy operatives, now face a long legal battle.
This incident highlights rising cyber-extortion trends against public figures. Law enforcement’s response, including a special cyber cell team, has been praised. With the case now in court, outcomes could influence how such threats are handled, ensuring celebrities and families feel secure amid fame’s shadows.
