5 Kg Heroin Seized as Counter Intelligence Nabs Two in Amritsar

Counter Intelligence in Amritsar has arrested two drug traffickers and recovered 5 kg of heroin, exposing a narcotics network that was operating across Punjab. The development marks another step in the state's ongoing crackdown on drug smuggling.

The information was made public through a social media post by the Punjab DGP. It stated that the network dealing in narcotic substances had been busted and that two accused had been apprehended with 5 kg of heroin in their possession.

The DGP further explained that initial investigation indicates the accused used to obtain heroin consignments from unidentified accomplices. The consignments were then delivered to other people in various parts of Punjab. The network had remained active for a long period and was distributing heroin that came into the state from across the border.

An FIR has been lodged under the NDPS Act at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar. Police officials said the case is being investigated thoroughly to trace everyone connected with the trafficking chain and to completely root out the network. The arrested suspects are being questioned, and their links on both sides of the supply chain are being examined.

Punjab Police have reiterated that dealing with drug trafficking and eliminating organised narcotics networks is its foremost priority. The department said it is fully committed to making Punjab safe and free from drugs and will continue to carry out such operations.

Several major drug trafficking modules have been unearthed in recent months with the support of Counter Intelligence and the STF. Heroin smuggling via drones has repeatedly been reported in border districts such as Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur. Police are now keeping a sharp eye on drone movements and working alongside central agencies.
