Bhagalpur, Bihar witnessed a heart-wrenching road accident on Tuesday evening when an out-of-control bus smashed into a pickup vehicle and an e-rickshaw near Bagdi Bridge on NH-31 in Naugachia area. Four people lost their lives, and up to eight others sustained injuries, three of whom are fighting for their lives.
The sequence of events began with the bus overtaking erratically before it struck the pickup van with tremendous force. Unable to stop, it then plowed into the e-rickshaw, leading to immediate fatalities among its riders. The scene was chaotic, with mangled vehicles and cries for help echoing along the highway.
Swift action by Khirak police station officers prevented further mishaps. The injured were first stabilized at Bihpur CHC before being shifted to JLNMCH in Bhagalpur. Post-mortems on the deceased are being conducted to aid the probe.
While identities are being verified, sources indicate the victims include residents from neighboring Katihar and Khagaria districts. The highway jam lasted several hours, disrupting travel for hundreds.
This fatal mishap highlights persistent issues on NH-31: excessive speeds, poor lane discipline, and cutthroat competition among public transport operators. Community leaders are demanding immediate installation of speed cameras and awareness campaigns.
