Special ₹1,000 Crore Package Approved for Roads and Manufacturing Hub in BTR

Assam’s cabinet has cleared a special package of Rs 1,000 crore aimed at revamping the road infrastructure of the Bodoland Territorial Region. The fund will be directed toward constructing new highways, widening existing routes and improving rural connectivity.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma explained that the upgraded network is a cornerstone for converting BTR into a manufacturing and logistics hub. Better roads will lower transportation costs, stimulate industrial activity and create a pipeline for raw material movement.

Alongside the infrastructure boost, the state government is rolling out welfare programmes such as Arunoday, the Chief Minister’s Aatmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan, the MMUA women’s entrepreneurship initiative and free ration schemes. These are being implemented swiftly to ensure that the benefits of development reach every household.

The move aligns with the broader agenda of fully executing the Bodo Peace Accord under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance. By coupling security with economic incentives, the administration aims to sustain peace and foster prosperity across the four BTR districts – Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Tamulpur.

Stakeholders, including local traders and community leaders, have welcomed the announcement, saying that the combined focus on infrastructure and welfare will transform the region’s socioeconomic dynamics in the coming years.
