1984 Anti-Sikh Riots: Harsimrat Badal Questions Congress Apology

Bathinda: Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who visited Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo, targeted both the Punjab government and the Congress party in a wide-ranging statement.

Badal attacked the AAP government over alleged corruption, weakening law and order and the spread of narcotics in the state. She also criticised a Congress rally in Delhi and said the party's leadership had never apologised to the Sikh community for the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.

In an interview, she said Kejriwal and his 40 thieves had looted and exploited Punjab. She argued that the state had suffered from loot, corruption, plunder of the government treasury, killings and drug abuse over the past five years. If the same group returned to power, she said, these problems would continue for another five years.

Badal urged people to recognise the situation and asserted that the AAP leaders would not change their ways. To save Punjab, she said, citizens must unite and remove the party from the state entirely.

Reflecting on the 1984 violence, she called the Delhi massacre painful and said she had witnessed it with her own eyes as a young child in the city.

She said the government, the Congress party and the Gandhi family had acted with extreme cruelty. She cited Rajiv Gandhi's remark about the earth shaking when a big tree falls, alleging that it was used to justify violence. According to her, people were provoked to search for Sikhs, drag them out of their homes, put tyres around their necks and burn them alive.
