19 Children from Five States Freed in Bangalore Sweep Following DK Shivakumar’s Orders

A massive rescue drive in Bangalore’s Yeshwanthpur APMC market freed nineteen children originating from five different Indian states after Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar issued explicit instructions to the police. The chief minister’s on‑site visit to the RMC Yard police area highlighted the issue of child labour in market stalls, prompting the formation of five task forces led by senior police officials. The rescued cohort included a majority from Bihar, with the remainder from West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka. Law enforcement recorded four offences against the offending shop owners under relevant child‑labour and juvenile justice statutes and initiated further investigations. Ten additional children discovered working on the market’s sidewalks were also rescued and presented before the city’s child welfare committee.
