Delhi’s bustling metro network witnessed a shocking suicide on Friday when a minor student ended his life by jumping before a train at Uttam Nagar East station. The 17-year-old’s desperate act has sparked widespread grief and calls for immediate intervention in youth counseling services.
According to police reports, the boy, Ashwini Dagar, a resident of Najafgarh, made the fatal jump from platform 1 at approximately 11:07 AM. A Dwarka-bound metro train struck him instantly, leading to his death on the spot. The station control room received the alert, and emergency teams rushed to the scene.
DCP Metro Kushal Pal Singh briefed the media, confirming the recovery of the body, which was transported to DDU Hospital for autopsy. The mishap disrupted metro operations for over 30 minutes, stranding hundreds of passengers who were evacuated safely.
Further probing uncovered that Ashwini was coaching for entrance exams after clearing Class 12. He had been battling undisclosed personal problems, which reportedly pushed him into depression. His family, shattered by the news, revealed he was their sole child; his father drives for DTC on contract.
