16 Delhi Metro stations closed as authorities cite safety risks

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation issued an advisory on Thursday, ordering the shutdown of sixteen stations starting at 7:30 a.m. The decision was taken to address emerging safety concerns across the network. Interchange services will continue at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat.

Stations placed under closure include Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Tirth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh and Shivaji Stadium. No specific timeline for reopening has been announced.

The same set of stations was previously shut down on Wednesday for security reasons, with the three interchanges staying operational. A similar suspension on Sunday affected Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat and Seva Tirth, though the interchange at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat was subsequently restored.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have filed ten FIRs linked to violent episodes during the Cockroach Party’s march toward the Parliament. The cases address various public disorder allegations and are currently being probed.
