Zero‑Tolerance Policy Targets Fake Drugs Across Gujarat

Gandhinagar – Gujarat has intensified its fight against fake medicines and food adulteration, adopting a zero‑tolerance policy that has already led to the cancellation of 50 pharmaceutical licences. The health ministry, guided by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's directives, has launched extensive raids across the state.

Health Minister Prabhull Pansheriya reported that combined teams from the Food Department and the Drugs Department have seized numerous batches of counterfeit cough syrup, substandard tablets, and other illicit products. Factories involved in these activities have been sealed, and their licences suspended.

The minister praised the community's response, noting that citizens have actively supported inspections by flagging suspicious items. Restaurants serving contaminated food have been closed, and the individuals responsible are being prosecuted.

Ahmedabad police, collaborating with the crime branch and drug officials, extended the operation to three adjacent states, resulting in the detention of several suspects linked to the illegal network.

Pansheriya cautioned that anyone attempting to adulterate medicines or food will face strict legal consequences. The government has pledged to keep the campaign active until the threat is fully neutralised, underscoring its resolve to safeguard public health.
