Unlock New Vitality with Everyday Bhekasana Sessions
New Delhi, August 10 – In an era where stress and sedentary habits dominate, yoga emerges as a vital antidote. Bhekasana, popularly dubbed the Frog Pose, offers a unique blend of stretch and strength that revitalises both the skeletal and muscular systems.
The pose’s name originates from the Sanskrit words "bheka" (frog) and "asana" (pose), mirroring the way the body bends during the exercise. Practitioners must bend the spine backward while drawing the legs upward, a movement that calls for a supple mid‑back and solid core support.
The AYUSH ministry highlights that regular Bhekasana practice increases spinal elasticity, facilitating easier mobility and a sense of lightness. The posture intensely engages the lower back, biceps, triceps, abdominal wall, thighs, calves, and the ligaments around the knees and ankles. Over time, these muscles experience a controlled stretch that translates into stronger, more resilient tissue.
Steps to perform the pose: lie on the stomach, gently flex the knees, and pull the feet toward the head, holding the ankles or shins with both hands. Keep the chest glued to the floor and breathe evenly. Hold briefly, then release gradually. Those with wrist, elbow discomfort or high blood pressure should refrain or seek guidance from a qualified instructor.
Consistent daily practice of Bhekasana can foster a distinct sensation of bodily firmness, heightened agility, and an overall boost in energy levels.
