Tragic Suicide of Respected SMS Medical College Faculty Member
SMS Medical College in Jaipur mourns the loss of Dr. N.L. Disania, a senior professor and department head of Forensic Medicine, who died by suicide on 8 July. The 57‑year‑old academic was found hanging in a bedroom of his house in the Khatiyapura locality after his family returned from a wedding ceremony.
The discovery prompted an immediate transfer to a private medical facility where he was declared dead, and his body was later moved to SMC Hospital for a mandatory post‑mortem. Colleagues highlighted Dr. Disania’s three‑decade legacy in forensic education, noting his recent involvement in inaugurating a high‑tech laboratory at the college’s hospital.
College leadership, including the principal and senior administrators, visited the site and offered their condolences. The Jhotiwala police department opened a case, and the Forensic Science Laboratory team inspected the premises. Additional police presence has been arranged at the mortuary for security.
Family members are being interviewed, and the final cause of death will be confirmed once the autopsy report is released. No official confirmation of a suicide note has been made.
It has been reported that Dr. Disania was under considerable stress due to a prior financial fraud case involving a relative, though investigators have not established any direct connection to his death.
