Hyderabad’s traffic enforcers pulled off a high-tech takedown when they arrested a BMW owner employing a remote-controlled flipping number plate to skirt traffic violations. The dramatic catch happened during a nighttime drunk driving checkpoint in posh Jubilee Hills on Saturday.

The driver had rigged his luxury car with dual plates—one registered in Delhi, the other in Telangana—operated via remote. This allowed instant swaps to confuse fines. Intoxicated and caught switching plates, he left officers baffled by the engineering marvel hidden in plain sight.

Police confiscated the vehicle and filed charges, marking what they call a pioneering case of such vehicular trickery. Deeper probes aim to expose similar modifications across the city.

This episode underscores Hyderabad’s aggressive road safety push. In 48 hours, 466 drunk driving incidents were logged, predominantly among two-wheeler riders (404). Young adults aged 21-30 were the most frequent offenders. Courts sentenced 16 to prison terms.

Cyberabad’s parallel blitz over the weekend apprehended 240 violators: 193 bikes, nine autos, and 38 cars. BAC readings showed 199 mildly over limits (36-200 mg/100ml), 32 moderately high (201-300), and nine dangerously intoxicated (301-550 mg/100ml).

Offenders face judicial proceedings. Authorities emphasize that accidents from intoxication invite severe penalties under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 105, with potential 10-year sentences and hefty fines. As campaigns intensify, the message is clear: no gadget beats the law on Hyderabad’s streets.
