Residents Advised to Seek Early Treatment for Leptospirosis After Monsoon Floods

Following several days of intense showers that have left many parts of Mumbai water‑logged, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has released guidance urging people with any skin injury to avoid contact with standing water. The advisory states that the Leptospira bacteria thrive in rain‑filled puddles and can infiltrate the body through even minor cuts. Citizens are encouraged to approach a doctor within 24‑72 hours of exposure and to begin the prophylactic drug course promptly. Free health checks and medication are available at municipal dispensaries, BMC clinics and designated hospitals. The notice also calls for community outreach to inform relatives and neighbours about the disease’s early signs and stresses that any fever during the season warrants immediate medical evaluation.
