Renovation at Stanley Medical College leads to emergency ward overcrowding, says BJP leader

BJP leader Nainar Nagendraan highlighted a critical issue at Chennai's Stanley Medical College Hospital, where ongoing renovation has reportedly caused patients in the emergency ward to share a single bed. The party chief cited media coverage that three individuals were confined to one mattress, describing the scenario as "unacceptable" and indicative of administrative disarray within the health department. Nagendraan questioned the lack of pre‑emptive measures, asking why the government failed to arrange alternate spaces before starting the refurbishment. He drew a parallel with the state secretariat, asking if ministers would be crammed into one room during renovations, underscoring that such a practice would never be tolerated in government offices. He called on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Health Minister Arun Raj to guarantee sufficient bed numbers, hygienic washrooms, and safe drinking water for patients relying on public hospitals. The state has yet to respond to these concerns.
