Post‑mortem awaited as sick tiger dies at West Bengal rescue centre

The Sundarbans Jharkhali Tiger Rescue Centre in South 24 Parganas confirmed the death of a Royal Bengal tigress that had been under constant observation.

Rescued in a critical condition from Chulkati forest last December, the tiger received intensive treatment at Alipur Zoo before being moved back to Jharkhali in March. Staff noted a sudden decline on Monday, with the animal showing immobility and fever.

Medical staff administered emergency drugs, but the tigress could not be revived. A necropsy has been performed, and the forest department is waiting for the findings to ascertain the precise cause of death.
