National TB Elimination Program Review Shows Strong Monitoring in Tamil Nadu

A recent assessment of the National TB Elimination Program held in Chennai revealed that Tamil Nadu's monitoring framework has been significantly reinforced. The review, attended by all district sub‑directors, evaluated the identification of 48,469 new TB patients in the first half of 2026.

Officials were directed to expand case‑finding activities, ensure timely initiation of treatment, and maintain rigorous follow‑up to safeguard treatment adherence. Emphasis was placed on swift contact tracing and prophylactic therapy to break transmission chains.

The program also stressed the importance of delivering enhanced medical facilities for critically ill TB patients, aiming to raise cure rates and reduce mortality.

Data from 2025 showed 93,203 TB cases detected and the declaration of 2,390 gram panchayats as TB‑free, underscoring the effectiveness of coordinated public‑health interventions.
